• Bright Futures Farm Bright Futures Farm is a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization committed to a safe and dignified quality of life for horses that are no longer useful to their current owners. Many of these wonderful animals are Thoroughbreds that can no longer race because of injury or inability to place consistently Âin the money (and are otherwise sound). Sanctuary Inc. is a not for profit "Farm and Equine Rescue and Retirement" Sanctuary. We are currently located on a ranch in Rhinebeck, New York. For the last four years, we have been rescuing horses and farm animals. Our resident animals were rescued from abusive homes and others were rescued from slaughterhouses. We are available to take in horses that their owners are unable to keep and/or horses that have been starved, abandoned and abused. We work hard to rehabilitate all and then offer them for adoption when possible. Location: United States, New York, Lockport • Nokota Horse Conservancy The Nokota Horse Conservancy is a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to preserve the unique and historical Nokota Horse. These wild horses of the northern plains have inhabited the area encompassing Theodore Roosevelt National Park since at least the 1880's. The vast majority of the remaining Nokota horses currently survive on the overburdened Kuntz Ranch. Location: United States, North Dakota, Linton • CANTER Ohio CANTER Ohio has helped more than 765 race horses transition into new careers and provided foster care for over 220 horses since 2001. Through its Web site, CANTER provides the means for the public to view what horses are ending their racing careers and are available for purchase or adoption at Thoroughbred racetracks in six states. Location: United States, Ohio • H.O.R.S.E. Rescue and Sanctuary H.O.R.S.E. Rescue and Sanctuary is a charitable, tax-exempt Humane Corporation based in Wyoming County, N.Y.; about forty miles southwest of Rochester. The Rescue was incorporated on May 16, 1996, in order to prevent cruelty to equines of all breeds and ages. Location: United States, New York, York • USERL - United States Equine Rescue League A 501(c)3 tax-exempt charity. USERL acquires horses from a variety of sources. In the beginning, the League accepted donations of equines. Now, having established a respectable reputation within the equine community, USERL shelters equines that have been seized by law enforcement authorities and those surrendered by neglectful and/or abusive owners. Location: United States, North Carolina, Kernersville • H.O.P.E. Organization An Ohio Non-profit Corporation. Each year thousands of unwanted horses (many young & healthy; many abused & neglected) are bought at public auction for slaughter. The horse meat is then sent overseas for human consumption. The mission of Equine Advocates is to rescue, protect, and prevent the abuse of horses through education, investigation, rescue operations, and the dissemination of information to the public. The organization deals primarily with four main issues of importance: Equine Rescue, Horse Slaughter, PMU (Pregnant Mares' Urine) Industry The Prevention of Equine Abuse. HiHopes was founded in early 1999, often working in conjunction with local humane societies, our mission is to assist in the rehabilitation and retirement of neglected or abused horses.
