• ReRun Horse Rescue ReRun gives ex-racehorses a second chance at a productive life by first evaluating temperaments, talents and physical capabilities and then matching the animals to new owners. We assist in the re-training and recuperation process with the help of volunteers and paid personnel skilled in horsemanship. Based out of Kentucky with chapters in VA, NJ, NY, IL, MD, and WA. Location: United States, Indiana, Frankfort • The Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society (HARPS) of Barrington, Illinois has a triple focus: rescue, education, and legislation. HARPS Founder, Donna Ewing, has been instrumental in improving animal welfare legislation. Location: United States, Illinois, Barrington Hills • Horse Protection Association of Florida Association's Mission: to provide equine rescue, rehabilitation, education and adoption services within the state of Florida; to provide assistance to law enforcement and animal agencies with cruelty investigations, as well as the care and placement of horses; to promote and teach horse care and humane, natural methods of training for horses. Location: United States, Florida, Micanopy • Mill Creek Farm The Retirement Home for Horses gives lifetime care to horses seized by law enforcement; those rescued by the SPCA or Humane Societies; horses retired from government service such as police patrol, state or federal parks; horses used by handicapped riding programs; circus horses; those used in experiments or similar cases. All of our board members are unpaid volunteers. We also have many unpaid volunteers who work at the farm in their spare time. We can always use more help. Dianne Cohoon has been saving horses from slaughterhouses, tracks, and severe abuse and neglect for over 30-years in South Florida. Mrs. Cohoon also specializes in rehabilitation, horse and carriage training, and rider instruction using biomechanical principles, in harness and under saddle. Organized in 1992 in order to Rescue Equines from neglect and abuse, and to help rehabilitate those equines who had suffered from that neglect and/or abuse. With our educational programs, foster and adoptive programs, the GERL has become one of the most influential equine organizations in the nation, and has been used as a model organization for other rescue groups.
