The Thai Ridgeback Dog is an old breed which can be seen in the archeological writing in Thailand which was written about 35O years ago. Mainly in the eastern part of Thailand, it was used for hunting. People also used it to escort their carts and as a watchdog.

The history of the Silken Windhound actually started with another breed in the 1970's, called Longhaired Whippets. The Longhaired Whippets were introduced by Walter Wheeler, in Massachusetts who claims to have bred Whippets with longer coats than normal from purebred Whippets, in fact, from some of the top winning Whippets in England and the US.
