  American Foxhound Breed Standard
Should be fairly long, slightly domed at occiput, with cranium broad and full. Ears set on moderately low, long, reaching when drawn out nearly, if not quite, to the tip of the nose; fine in texture, fairly broad, with almost entire absence of erectile power--setting close to the head with the forward edge slightly inturning to the cheek--round at tip.

  American Foxhound Dog - Breed Information
As its name suggests, the American Foxhound was developed in colonial America, using the English Foxhound as a base. Irish, French and other hounds are thought to have been used in the breed's refinement. The American Foxhound was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1905. Head and Skull The head is fairly long. The skull is slightly domed at the occiput.
