Berger de Pyrenees Dog - Breed Information
The Berger de Pyrenees is an ancient breed, a shepherd/flock guard native to, and developed in, the Pyrenees Mountain valleys of France. The Berger de Pyrenees is a lean, lively dog of minimal height and weight, with an enormous amount of nervous energy and a mischievous, wary expression. The Berger de Pyrenees was recognized by the UKC on January 1, 1995.

  History of the Pyrenean Shepherd
Bernard Senac-Lagrange, a great fancier of the breed in the late 1800s and early 1900s, indicates in his 1927 book, Les Chiens Pyrenees, that the Pyrenean Shepherd has existed in the Pyrenees Mountains since the Bronze Age (2000B.C to 1000 B.C.). It seems probable that the breed was influenced by the trade routes of the Roman Empire.
