  Saint Bernard Breed Standard
Saint Bernard - powerful, proportionately tall figure, strong and muscular in every part, with powerful head and most intelligent expression. In dogs with a dark mask the expression appears more stern, but never ill-natured. Like the whole body, very powerful and imposing.

Saint Bernard Dog - Breed Information
The Saint Bernard is a large, massive, athletic dog with a broad head, medium-sized drop ears and a natural tail carried level with the back or with a slight upward curve. All modern Saints trace their ancestry to Schumacher's dogs. Saints were introduced to the United States in the late 18th century. The Saint Bernard was recognized by UKC in 1920s.

The Saint Bernard was created in the 1700s by monks of the Saint Bernards order who lived high in the Alps of Switzerland. It is a descendant of the Mastiff, Great Dane and Bloodhound. Its ancestors, the mastiffs, were first introduced to Switzerland by the invading Roman legions.
