•   Japanese Terrier Description This breed was created by mating smooth-haired Fox Terriers, exported to Nagasaki from the Netherlands in the 17th century, to small-sized pointers or small-sized native dogs. The Smooth Fox Terrier traveled all the way from Holland to Japan in 1702 to produce the first Japanese Terrier, bred from crossings with native breeds of that era. The Japanese Terrier receives his name from his country of origin, Japan.
